To master a skill, Malcolm Gladwell, author of Outliers, says it could take up to 10,000 hours. Which can be broken down to about 9 years (practicing 4 hours each day and at least 5 days per week).
This is how I have felt these past few years studying for the Certified Financial Planning (CFP®) designation. A Certified Financial Planner is a formal recognition of expertise in the areas of financial planning, taxes, insurance, estate planning and retirement.
In order to take the board-certified exam, you had to pass all six of their education requirements. Currently, I am in enrolled in the 10-week exam prep to take the board-certified exam in early July. Preparing for the board-certified exam over these past few years has taught me patience, self-discipline and an increased usage of time blocking.
After the board-certified exam has been passed in July, I can spend my time reading Outliers!
